Almonds For Health
Almonds are an alkaline food. So eating a handful of almonds is a great way to neutralize acid
foods and of course enrich your body with healthy dose of vitamin E too.
Nuts of all sorts are rich in the antioxidant vitamin E. Almonds are loaded with a form called
alpha-tocopherol. Researchers, have found that both forms may help lower the risk of heart
disease. Almonds are also the leading source of monounsaturated fat among America's most
consumed nuts. Of the 14 grams of total fat found in one ounce of almonds, about 64 percent is
monounsaturated. This 'good' fat plays a role in helping almonds lower harmful cholesterol just
as effectively as expensive drugs, according to a recent study published by the American Heart
Association.
A one-and-a-half ounce handful of almonds is a leading source of magnesium and offers
protein, fiber, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and iron.
Nuts Fighting Cancer?
Cancer can also take a beating from nuts. Selenium-rich cashews and Brazil nuts can
help protect against cancer, according to a study published in the February 2000 issue of the
Journal of Nutrition. A study published at the same time in the American Journal of Family
Physicians found that hazelnuts and almonds contain good amounts of folate, a B-vitamin
that appears to protect against both cancer and heart disease.
Remember though, just a handful at snack time will do it , as they are high in fat.
So, short but to the point, nuts are a great way to keep your hunger at bay, get healthy, balance
your alkalinity, fight cancer and heart disease too! For a great inexspensive way to purchase
